The Water Front wins the "SILVER DROP" award at World Water Forum, Instanbul, 2009Sixth award for "The Water Front" received for "strong cinematic approach"! ![]() The International jury of the International Water and Films events, Istanbul 2009 Amy Goodman of Democracy Now covered the event from the perspective of, "Activists from the People’s Water Forum," an alternative formation representing the rural poor, the environment and organized labor. Winona Hauter, executive director of Food and Water Watch - and host of our Great Lakes tour was at the conference and is featured in the interview. For a complete transcript of the program and to listen to the interview - visit the link below. EXCERPT FROM WINONA HAUTER: Winona Hauter, executive director of Food and Water Watch. We’ve been organizing around the water forums for several years, because this is the corporate trade show where decisions are made about who gets water and who doesn’t get water. Strategies are developed here. And it’s basically a big business corporate cheerleading session that sets the agenda for the world. And rather than governments coming up with the solutions for the 1.4 billion people that don’t have access to water, we have the corporations that are going to benefit from privatizing it and for providing financing for new and old infrastructure. http://www.democracynow.org/2009/3/23/water_rights_activists_blast_istan... »
